    Description

A good antique 1900 to 1940s date Nepalese villager type Ganjawal kukri - khukuri, often called the farmers Kukri because of the many tools in the back pouch.
This large kukri knife is complete with all its small tools and bi knives except for one, that missing tool was likely a pencil as the small pouch at the back is round, could also be for an awl for making holes, it is missing but could easily be re made or replaced with another.
The kukri comes with an ornate kothimora type sheath which has yellow bronze alloy repouse Buddha and skulls etc with inset coral and turquoise stones, see pics.
The Kukri is a large knife as used by the Gurkha in Nepal and the British army, This one is in exceptional condition for age and likely hardly ever used, has been kept oiled and has no edge niks rot rust or other damage.
    T
he blade is slightly hollow forged and with the typical kukri edge grid which is often called scandi grind by knife collectors and makers, it is made from laminated carbon steel and has a differential'y heat treated cutting edge, still very sharp.
If you do not understand what  Differential'y heat treated means search kukri maker and you will find numerous vids and other info explaining how these kukris are edge quenched and hardened to leave the cutting edge hard and sharp and the back of the spine less hard for strength.
This particular kukri is known as a fat belly or fat boy I am told due to the wide width of its blade compared to others.
The part of the blade on a good kukri that is hardened is only the belly of the blade into the blade by around 1/2 its width, the tip of a kukri blade is left semi hardened as is the top v ridged spine, the kukri makers and users such as the Gurkha always prefer a blade which if damaged can be straightened rather than being broken off, it is easy to straighten a blade in the field but not to fix a snapped off tip or broken blade.
The blade of this kukri is very sharp still and is perfect for use if the buyer so wished.
The hilt is made from a dark rosewood type hard wood it has v tang which has been set native tree resin type glue, the bolster of the hilt is made from steel and would be set with the same traditional native tree resin mix as is used on all older kukris, there is one small chip on the top point of the pommel of this kukri hilt, common on old kukris.
The sheath - scabbard is traditional and is made from wood with a leather covering in black leather and its yellow bronze repousse adornments of Buddhist style typical of Nepal and Tibet, the back pouches are made from leather which hold the chakmak and kardar utility - bi knife and flint steel come sharpening steel in one.
In all a very nice and complete kukri, still usable and good collectible genuine antique.
size is in sheath 17-1/2 inches, out of sheath 16-1/2 inches, blade is 12-1/2 inches long and at the thickest point of the v ridged spine it is 1/4 inch thick.
