Felt wool production is a traditional craft of Kyrgyzstan. Since the country is very mountainous and has many tribal nomadic communities, they tend to live under very cold weather conditions. They live in yurts made with felt wool and decorative trimmings known as shyrdaks. The color dyeing, designing and stitching are all hand done. Hence toys for the children are also made from felt Wool.
This is an effort on our part to bring you unique items and assist the various Women's handicraft groups developing their handicraft cottage industries in Central Asia. This item is from a village just outside Naryn, Kyrgyzstan. Your purchase will support these talented, Industrious Women and help share their craft.
