    Description

Up for grabs is a Beautiful Naga Tribal Body Cloth, circa mid 20th
Description: Beautifully designed Naga Tribal Body Cloth, Ca 1950's or before.  Frequently worn as a shoulder cloth.  This tribal textile is from the Naga tribe and was traditionally worn as a shawl or body cloth indicating tribal belonging and status. It has been decorated with embroidered motifs and circular designs in cowry shells, cotton, red/orange wool or dyed dog's hair.  The predominant vertical stripes are I would say a sage green color in person.  All original and genuine.
The Naga are an ancient tribal people found in the hills of Northeast India and parts of Burma. They have a rich history of textile weaving and are renowned for their fantastic body adornments. Textile weaving is accomplished by the women. They employ the back-strap loom, using hand spun cotton and sometimes hemp.
Dimensions about:  61" (not including end fringe) X 36.5"
Condition: Excellent condition.  Natural soiling especially at corners from wearing.  The cloth has never been cleaned and is as found.
I hand sewed a black cotton hanging pocket on one end to be able to hang the piece vertically on a wall.  Hanging rod to go inside the pocket is not included.
