    Description

This is one of 2 Reeves Sound Studio tube compressors that I have. This is a CRA-100b tube compressor. I am also listing my CPA-102 Compressor in another listing.
If you don't know about Hazard "Buzz" Reeves and Reeves Sound Studios do a google search . ( Preservation Sound has a lot of info Hazard Reeves and Reeves Sound Studios, )
The design appears to be very similar to the Altec 322C  , even using Altec meters and transformers.
Much of the Riverside recording were done there , maybe the most important was the Monk and Coltrane recordings .
Monk and Coltrane's partnership lasted for roughly a five-month period during which they played six nights a week at the legendary Five Spot club in NYC. They would hit the studio after the gig as Riverside had book the studio at a discounted rate for use after hours!. Recorded in Reeves Sound Studio during the spring and summer of 1957, the album showcases Monk and Coltrane, with a great supporting cast. Most likely the recording were made with one of these compressors.
Reeves brought about Cinerama " Utilizing , Reeves created a seven-channel sound system for Cinerama, the company of which he was president by 1952. That same year, Cinerama released its first picture, . Reeves' sound system was the first, discrete stereophonic sound system used in post-war commercial application. Reeves Soundcraft Corporation won an Academy Award in 1953 for their development of a process of applying stripes of magnetic oxide to motion picture film for sound recording and reproduction."
I am lucky to have a Cinerama 7 channel tube EQ system made by DG Hare for Reeves. An amazing 7 channel tube EQ.
This is a great tube compressor that has been completely gone over , re-capped and re-tubed and is in great working order.
This is a vintage piece of recording history.
