    Description

    Greetings From Conglomeration Of Miscellany!!
Calling all aspiring musicians...Are you looking to add a high-quality, mid-1980s vintage sampling keyboard to your synth setup, garage band, or studio that is complete, functional, thoroughly tested, and comes with a wealth of user documentation? This Roland S-50 bundle may be what you need to bring vintage synth sound to your music.
For its time, the Roland S-50 was an impressive instrument. It features 61 full-size weighted keys with a 16-note polyphony. Four RCA 1/4" phono jacks allow the user to layer up to four voices per output to individual mixer inputs or combine them into a single Mix output jack. Playback is monitored from an RCA 1/4" monaural phono headphone jack. Voices are loaded into its 512K of on-board memory with the included Roland Director-S Sequencer software package via 800K floppy disks and the on-board disk drive. External, line-level audio samples can also be recorded into its memory through the 1/4" phono jacks. These samples can be edited on-screen when the unit is attached to a TV or computer monitor via the composite and RGB video outputs. The DT-100 Digitizer Tablet uses a wired stylus to edit aspects of the sample such as its attack, sustain, release, and decay. Edited samples are then stored to data diskettes.
This Roland S-50 was owned by my late father-in-law. He was a lover of music and a computer hobbyist. Of the four Roland synthesizers in his home studio, this was his favorite to use. Combined with an Apple IIgs fitted with a PassPort MIDI interface, he created many original songs. He prided himself on being able to perform his own maintenance from ROM installation to touching up the occasional chip on the chassis with his tube of black touch-up paint. He was diligent when it came to keeping up to date with the latest manual revisions and corrections. Its capabilities were expanded upon with both peripherals and software. This instrument was not only played; it was loved. Closer examination reveals a few blemishes that are the result of age and usage. These include small shallow creases in the metal chassis and paint scuffs which, as stated earlier, would be touched up. Some chassis screws have rounded heads. One screw from each side of each end finish piece, which utilize three screws per side, is missing for reasons unknown. All of these fasteners are metric machine screws that securely hold the chassis together and could be replaced if desired. For a synthesizer manufactured in 1986, and used for over two decades, it is in beautiful condition.
