Germany to get Patriot missiles in $5B deal

The United States has approved the sale to Germany of hundreds of the latest generation of interceptor missiles for use in Patriot air defense systems.
As part of the $5 billion deal covering 600 advanced PAC-3 interceptor missiles made by Lockheed Martin, the German government will also get training and spare parts, according to a U.S. State Department press release issued late Thursday.
Germany has this year ordered eight Patriot battery systems from RTX for $2.4 billion.
As part of successive aid packages for Ukraine, the German government has donated three Patriot platforms along with interceptors to boost the country’s air defenses. Berlin has also called on allies to do the same.
“[The sale] will support Germany’s goal of improving national and territorial defense as well as interoperability with U.S. and NATO forces,” the State Department notice said.
